Privacy policy
mum.com.au (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Who we are
mum.com.au is an independent Australian product comparison and review website for parents. This policy covers this website and any related newsletters or contact channels we operate.
Information we collect
Information you give us. For example, your email address when you subscribe to our newsletter or ask us to watch a price for you, and any details you include when you contact us (such as your name, email and message).
Price alerts. If you ask us to watch a price, we record which product you asked about and, if you set one, the price you want to hear about. We keep that record against an account rather than against your email address: asking for an alert creates a basic account for you on this site, so you can see and remove your alerts later. Your email address itself is held by our email provider, not in our product database.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, we collect standard technical and usage data when you visit, including your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and how you arrived at the site. We collect this through cookies and analytics tools (see below).
We do not knowingly collect sensitive information, and we do not ask for it.
How we use your information
- To send you our newsletter, if you’ve subscribed (you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email);
- To email you when the price of a product you asked us to watch goes down, and only then. We check prices twice a week, so these emails are occasional rather than daily, and every one has an unsubscribe link;
- To respond to your enquiries and feedback;
- To understand how the site is used and to improve our content, research and recommendations;
- To keep the site secure and operating properly; and
- To meet our legal obligations.
Cookies and analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, to remember your preferences (such as products you’ve added to a comparison), and to measure traffic. We use analytics services (including Google Analytics) which set their own cookies and process usage data on our behalf. When you click an affiliate link, the destination retailer or its affiliate network may set a cookie so any resulting purchase can be attributed to us (see our affiliate disclosure).
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect how parts of the site work.
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run the site, and only so they can perform those services for us, or where we are required to by law.
Our newsletter and price-drop alerts are sent using Klaviyo, which stores your email address and your subscription preferences on servers in the United States. Our website host, analytics providers and affiliate networks may also store or process data outside Australia.
Data security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as required by law, after which we delete or de-identify it.
Your rights
Stopping price alerts. You can remove any individual alert at /my-alerts/, or stop all alert emails using the unsubscribe link in any alert we send. Unsubscribing from price alerts does not unsubscribe you from our newsletter, and vice versa: they are separate.
You can ask us to access or correct the personal information we hold about you, unsubscribe from our newsletter, or make a privacy complaint. To do any of these, contact us via our contact page. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Children’s privacy
mum.com.au is intended for parents and carers, not children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above shows when it last changed; significant changes will be reflected here.
