When comparing sun protection gear for your kids, the UPF rating is the first thing to check. Look for UPF50+ wherever possible, as this blocks around 98% of UV rays and meets Australian standards (AS/NZS 4399). Full coverage matters too: long-sleeved rashies with high necklines and legionnaire-style hats with neck flaps offer far better protection than cute but skimpy options, especially during our harsh summer months. Consider how the pieces will actually be used. If your little ones are in and out of the pool or ocean all day, a one-piece rashie suit dries faster and stays put better than separates. For childcare or kindy, a quality sun hat that won't blow off (look for chin straps or toggles) is worth spending a bit extra on. Budget options from Kmart and Best&Less can be excellent value, but do check the stitching and fabric thickness, as some cheaper pieces can go see-through when wet.
